Leaving comfort items like a sock, a nightlight, or a toy will also calm him.
Training your new puppy involves lots of playtime and patience. This never involves scolding every time your puppy makes a mistake. Don’t take his nose and rub it in his waste because this will only cause confusion. Instead, let the puppy finish doing his thing, then take a cloth and wipe it up. Create a scent post by wiping the cloth to the newspapers or puppy pads. This will serve as a guide the next time he has to go. Potty training also works wonders for you and your pet. Wait three minutes after feeding him then take him outside to do his business. When he goes to pee or poop, say “Go potty!”. But, until he gets the hang of answering the call-of-nature outside, make sure you put him on a tile floor, not on a carpet.
 
After you had your puppy vaccinated, teach him to walk on a leash. It is advisable to use a harness and a collar on a puppy on 2 different leashes. Once outside the house, the puppy will start to pull or rush ahead of you. Calmly tell him to “heel” and gently pull back on the leash. It is predictable that he would rush ahead of you again. This time, give one gentle but firm tug on both leashes and say the command “Heel!” Be consistent but generous with praises when he follows a command when you are training your new puppy. Enrolling your puppy in a pet obedience course is also advisable. All dogs who sign-up are required to be vaccinated, otherwise you will end up with a sick puppy. Puppy training is essential and at the end of the obedience course, your puppy will be that reliable and well-trained pet you’ve always dreamed him to be.
